The Art Of Resting In Christ
Wed 25th Apr, 2012
Here are a few quotes that I just read whilst on Phil Drysdale Ministries Facebook Page, and I thought they would be well worth a share.
Give us your feedback,or some equally interesting quotes that you’ve heard or made up yourself.
"Grace is the ability to do it right, not a license to do it wrong." Conrad Gille"Producing lots of fruit in the kingdom isn't a matter of how hard you work but of in whom you rest" (Jn 15:5) Greg Boyd
Resting in Him (Jesus, God) has ben something on my heart and mind the past couple of days. Particularly as it is so very easy to ‘Work, Work, Work’ and a) neglect quiet/rest time b) Proudly go at it yourself.
I know I slip into these dangerous camps much more often than I would want, particularly when new scenarios and situations occur.
Matthew 11:28 beautifully reads: “Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.”
Such a reassuring, wonderful passage to read, what an awesome promise. I WILL give you rest!!
Who is this promise for and what is this rest?
This promise if for those who believe and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus bore the unrest that you and I might have the rest.
When Jesus took ALL of our sin on the cross, (and as Paul said) when we co-died and were co-resurrected with Jesus, the load was gone, the burden was lifted; the glory of our rest from the burden of guilt.
But if you’re anything like me, I don’t often soak in the reality of that rest. I’ve only scratched the surface of this, and there is so much more, but I want to keep it short. I want to go and rest some more. To abide in Christ, to “let me hide myself in thee” as the hymn “Rock of Ages” wonderfully proclaims.
Perhaps I will write some more on this another time, but for now I challenge you to take some time and rest IN the person of Jesus Christ. Of who He is and what He has done!
I will leave you with this beautiful song:
Be Blessed
Josh
